INSTITUTION and AUDIENCE
The aim for this page is to introduce and identify the Institution's that have produced my researched films. I will do this by analysing the production company, the chosen actors, the audience and how this relates to my film. I will also discuss each of their target audiences and how this relates to my film.
'THIS IS ENGLAND'
'This is England' is directed by Shane Meadows, a british film maker from Staffordshire, England. He has been ranked '#40 in the 2008 Telegraph's list of the most powerful people in British Culture. Warp Films presents us with 'This is England'. Because Warp is Vertically integrated, it does not own the rights to distribute or exhibit its films therefore fore it relies on Optimum Release in order to do so. The UK film council and Screen Yorkshire funded the film in order for production to begin, its budget was an estimated 1.5 million and it made approximately 6 million in cinema screenings and its franchise in DVDS, and TV shows made another 2 million.

NATURAL BORN KILLERS
Warner Bros. Pictured presents us with 'Natural Born killers' in association with 'Regency Enterprises'. Warner Bros owns several companies including Warner Bros. Studios, Warner Bros, Pictures, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television. The production team that produced 'Natural Born killers' are; Quentin Tarentino (The writer), David Veloz (Screenplay) and Oliver Stone (Screenplay).
The main characters are Mickey Knox played by Woody Harrelson and Mallory Knox played by Juliette Lewis. Woody Harrelson has had many leading roles in films such as 'Seven Psychopaths", "The Hunger Games' and 'Friends With Benefits'. Similarly, Juliette Lewis is also recognised for her diversity within films, she has worked on films such as 'Cape Fear' , 'Whip It', 'Strange Days' and 'Kalifornia'.
Quentin Tarentino is a 'filmmaker concerned with the importance of character and its development' , his films include 'My best friends birthday', 'Lost film', 'My name is modesty' 'Natural Born killers' 'Kill Bill' and 'Freedom's Fury'.
The films budget was estimated at $34,000,000 and Grossed at $50,282,766 (USA). The filming dates were 24 May 1993 - 31 July 1993 and it was filmed in many locations, some being Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA Arizona, USA, Farmington, New Mexico, USA Illinois State Prison, Stateville and Illinois.
This relates to my film as although I do not have the wide bracket budget, I like the realistic location settings and that it wasn't filmed in a prosthetic studio (Not including the I love Mallory Scene) as this creates an element of authenticity.
'FRIDGE'
The Production company that produced Fridge is called Antonine Films. It has only ever produced one other film called 'The girl in the picture' in 1986.The companies in activity suggests the small budget of the film 'Fridge' and also the independent nature of the film itself, due to its low budget the film would not have had a large advertising campagne reflective of the target audience, an selective group of people who mainly follow independent films or Peter Mullan's other work.
Peter Mullan first began his career in acting after graduating from University, he had roles in films such as 'Trainspotting' 'Braveheart' and 'Shallow Grave' and in TV shows such as 'My name is Joe' 'On a clear day' and 'Boy A'. He then began directing films, his first full length film 'Orphans' won an award at the Venice film festival. Since then, Mullen has directed films such as 'Fridge' in 1995, 'Orphans' in 1998, 'The Magdalene Sisters' in 2002 and 'Neds' in 2010.
The main characters are 'Rudy' played by Gary Lewis and 'Alice' played by Vicki Masson. Gary Lewis is most known for his independent films such as 'The Gift' in 2012, 'The sadness of strangers' in 2012 and 'Filth' in 2011. Vicki Masson has also known for her Independent film work such as 'The Neighbours' in 1999, 'Doom and Gloom' in 1998 and 'Soldier Soldier' in 1996.

Here below I will assess the target Audience to my three chosen researched films and discuss how this relates to my film.
By using postmodern film techniques, Natural Born Killers seems to cater towards a younger audience.Throughout the film, Stone targets his audience by criticizing their actions. While the majority of the direct attacks occur toward a younger audience, he also indirectly critizes an older generation of viewers too. The techniques and themes of violence and rebelling occur throughout the film, target a younger audience, the editing techniques indirectly target an older age group. A critic stated-
'When the clips from American Maniacs are shown, they are edited next to clips of people watching television. The "audience" of this show, however, is from past decades. By editing the film so the violence of the fictional television show is placed next to clips of people watching television in the 1950s and 1960s, Stone seems to bring this older group of television viewers down to the level of the young people whom he is directly criticizing and, in turn, lumps them into his target audience as well.'
By using Satire and Parody throughout the film he ultimately forces his large target audience to relate to the anti-hereos of his film and the violent scenes they perform.Stone manages to make violence entertaining. This is England is targeted towards teenagers but because its rating is 18, the target audience is naturally going to widen as more people around the age of 18-30 would be able to watch it. The younger audience would watch it to either give them an insight as to what growing up in the 80's in a working class area would have been like, or because they could relate to the characters within the film. The older audience would watch the film either for entertainment or because possibly for some of them it could be nostalgic as to when they were growing up. Fridge is targeted towards a niche audience of Independent and Independent spirited Co. audiences. Through this Mullan can target an audience ages 16-40 who have seen his previous works and or companies like his who show representation through a certain technique that would not necessarily appeal to the Hollywood market. Through his realistic style, audiences can be shown an honest true representation of the topics Mullan's films table, some being poverty, alchoholism and realism. Here below, I have researched articles on Peter Mullan, this was found on the Guardian and it discusses Mullan's style and appeal.
